| I read about seeders, trackers, leechers etc. What/who are they? |

Seeder - The person who created the torrent and is provided the initial download of the contents of a torrent.
Also someone who has completed his download and, by leaving his client open, is now providing for other people to download off him

Leecher - Person who is still downloading pieces of the torrent from other users and the seeder (if available)

Tracker - The server that is used to 'track' a torrent by connecting users who want a specific torrent with other users wanting (or having) the same torrent, thus sharing pieces of a torrent amongst each other until they have the complete package

Please use the Account Retrieval form to have the login details (and another confirmation link, if you never received one) mailed back to you. You may also delete your account and then attempt to re-register. If you are using a free e-mail service such as Hotmail or Yahoo! there may be up to a 24hrs delay until you receive your e-mail. If your e-mail service requires ANY type of reply e-mail for you to get an e-mail (MailBlocks, Spam-Free) or any human interaction at all, don't plan on ever getting an account here, as this web site is super-intelligent, yet can't read an e-mail. If after repeated attempts you still cannot login, try posting your issue as specifically as possible in our forums

| Is this site legal? |
Absolutely! This site is merely a tracker. No actual files are hosted on this site and as such, this tracker and its members and owners have absolutely no way of checking what people are sharing - it merely tracks the hash ID and the IP addresses of users connected to each particular torrent. It is your responsibility to check that the content of the files which you download are legal in your locality. |
| Can I upload ANY torrent file here? |
So long as the file is not on our 'banned torrents' list (listed on our upload page), you can share anything you think others will enjoy downloading using this site. We even support torrents that are tracked by other trackers. |
| How do I change a current torrent URL? |
Simply go to google and search for MakeTorrent 2, then download it. There is a torrent editor feature in MakeTorrent which makes changing a tracker URL very easy without having to recreate the entire torrent file. Please read the help file of that program for further instructions. |
| What if the seeders are all gone? |
The only thing you really can do is to wait and see if the seeder reappears, you may also message the poster of the torrent asking them to reseed it. An Indian rain dance couldn't hurt, either. |
| How do I make my own torrents? |
Old way: Simply go to google and search for MakeTorrent 2, then download it.
New way: The newer versions of Azureus have a built-in torrent creation feature, which is very nice (and VERY easy). Simply follow the directions included with each application. If you run into any snags, our forums have a wealth of information regarding almost everything torrent related |
| Why does this site go down for hours on end sometimes? |
As with any major web site with users 24/7, we do require some downtime for system maintenance occasionally. We try to post a warning on the main page before any major outage. As this site gets busier and busier, we also occasionally have peaks that slow down our server. Donations of a few dollars help us keep this (and future) servers online and the site maintained. |
| How can I help out with this site? |
As there are millions of people using this site, the top two things you can do to help out are
- Seed anything you download until you have a 1:1 ratio (meaning you have uploaded the SAME amount you have downloaded.. or more)
- Answer peoples' questions in both the site chat and our forums. Most of our time is spent answering questions, and the more we have to answer questions, the less we can keep this site maintained and add new features.
As this site is extremely busy 24 hours a day, we constantly recruit new forum moderators (keeping the forums from going to the apes) and torrent moderators (watching for passworded torrents and bogus files). There is no application process for this, and begging will not get you the job. If you are helpful, you will get noticed and offered the job without having to ask.

As such, we do not make millions and rely on your support to keep this place going, donations are not only helpful, but needed as the servers these sites are hosted on and the massive amount of bandwidth per month (we're talking multiple Terabytes, here!) costs boku bucks per month. | I'm having a problem I can't seem to resolve on my own, what should I do? |
Before asking in every forum and twice every 10 seconds in the site chat, try searching the forums. The forums have been around for a long time, and 92% of the time already has your answer before you even ask it. It's likely someone else has had your same issue. If the problem is with your torrent client, read the help file of your client, as it usually describes error messages in detail (the people who wrote the client are going to know better than anyone how to fix a client issue). Next, do a search on google with the error as someone from another site may have seen that error. If you have exhausted all methods of solving your problem, ask in our support forum and be very detailed in your issue. If you ask politely enough and provide enough information, it is very likely someone will have an answer for you with a day or two (sometimes even within a few minutes). |

Over 3000 hours have been spent keeping this site coded and updated. It would take a seven figure offer to get us to part with this code. Please don't ask us to share it. If you really want a torrent site, we have released a bare bones version of this site under the name TorrentTrader. It made it to RC2 before development stopped. This code is what this site was once based upon and is quite nice. |
| I was banned from this site, how do I get unbanned? |
Please read the ban message you received over again, as it goes over what to do if you are banned by mistake. The top few reasons people get banned from here are: 1: uploading banned torrents 2: abusing our members in the forums or site chat 3: ignoring our moderators and admins 4: being hostile anywhere on the site. We pride ourselves on having a polite and friendly community site, and those who wish to make it otherwise will not be tolerated here. |
| I am a lamo leecher that downloads all software without seeding it for any amount of time, do I win a prize? |
As MuffTorrent has no official 'share or be banned' policy, you just may get away with it. That is, until a moderator sees your ratio after getting in a fight with his wife earlier. Keep your downloads seeded and you'll never have to worry. |
| What did the VIPs do to become VIPs? |
VIPs are just that, people who are special. They have put a vast amount of effort into the site or have seeded files for way more than they had to or simply rubbed a moderator the right way. There's no rime or reason for the promotion, just a good way to showcase those who are good people all the time. |

| My client is showing 'Not a gzipped file' errors when downloading a torrent |
Time to upgrade your torrent client, my friend. You've been using your Windows 3.1 equivelent for much too long. Download Azureus, TorrentStorm, Shad0w's BT client or a similar well-supported client (or you may just need an update to your existing client). Your client simply doesn't support all of the latest BT protocol functions anymore. |
| My client is showing strange errors with HTML code in them when downloading a torrent |
This is caused by a redirect, and happens when a tracker has changed announce URL's and is trying to point your client in the right direction automatically. If your client does not support this (and apparently it doesn't) you may want to try a different client or simply visit the host tracker, as there may be an updated torrent file available with the new URL in place. |
